Our Elephants' Happy Herd
Rescued and rehomed
Here at Phuket Elephant Care, our hearts belong to our magnificent elephants. These gentle
giants are the true stars of our sanctuary, and each one has a unique story. Many of them have
come to us after enduring years of hard labor in the logging industry.
We believe that rescued elephants deserve a life of dignity and freedom. Our sanctuary provides
a safe haven where they can roam natural spaces, socialize with their herd, and receive the care
they need to thrive.
On this page, you'll get to know our amazing elephants on a deeper level. We'll share their
individual stories, their personalities, and the special ways they contribute to our sanctuary
family. Come learn about the elephants who make Phuket Elephant Care such a special place.
Mum Muang Lung Sanctuary (4)
They call me Chanhom, a gentle giantess born in 1993. Rescued from the confines of an elephant show, I now roam with newfound freedom. My playful spirit knows no bounds, and I've even been known to nudge a football or weave around a basketball with surprising grace for my size.
They call me Martin. Born in 2010, I was fortunate to be rescued from a life of performing in shows. I enjoy spending my days swaying gently from side to side, a behavior sometimes called "rocking." With a healthy appetite, I'm known for my pleasant and easygoing temperament.
Trumpeted greetings! They call me Peter. Though I first drew breath in bustling Phuket back in 2017, my life truly began when I was fortunate enough to find rescue from the circus. Now, I roam free, my trunk ever-ready to shower friendly faces with playful kisses.
They call me Taddaw. Born in 1997, I wasn't lucky enough to start my life roaming free. Instead, I found myself in an elephant riding camp. Thankfully, I was eventually rescued from that life. While the world can be a lot to take in, I tend to be on the quiet and shy side. Loud noises, especially from trucks, still frighten me a bit, a reminder of that time in my past.
Naithon Sanctuary (13)
Bua Ngen, a beautiful spirit born in 1992, graces our sanctuary with her presence. Rescued from a riding camp, she found a forever home where kindness reigns. Bua Ngen, whose name translates to "Silver Lotus," brings a touch of joy wherever she goes. Just a glimpse of a banana (her favorite treat!) is enough to light up her eyes and bring a happy rumble from her belly. Welcome, Bua Ngen, to a life filled with peace and endless bananas!
They call me Chat Tong. Born in 1978, I have a long memory of life in the wild before being rescued from a logging company. While I cherish my freedom now, there are still some things I haven't quite warmed up to. For one, I find canines a bit too energetic for my taste. And let's just say a rainy day by the pool doesn't exactly spark joy in me.
They call me Daorung. Born in 1983, I came to this sanctuary after a life spent in an elephant riding camp. Though the world is dark for me, I find immense joy in the warm embrace of human connection.
They call me Far Sang, though some have taken to the nickname "Sexy Granny." Born in 1973, I've lived a long life, much of it spent in the throes of elephant rides. Thankfully, I was eventually rescued from that arduous existence. Despite my smaller stature, a fiery spirit burns bright within me.
They call me Mea Por Por. Born in 1993, I was fortunate to be rescued from a life of giving rides. Phuket may have its top five models, but here in the sanctuary, I find a different kind of beauty. While I may enjoy a good mud bath and a cool splash, there's a gentle wisdom in my eyes, and a playful spirit that keeps me young at heart.
Meet Mea Tong Po! Born in 1998 in Chang Mai, this gentle giant came to our sanctuary after a life in an elephant riding camp. Mea Tong Po has a joyful spirit, and you can always tell when food is on the horizon – that's when the happy dance begins! We're thrilled to offer Mea Tong Po a safe and loving forever home.
They call me Mo Meh La. Born in 1994, my trunk twitches with a happy rumble as I reach for a banana. They are my favorite treat, and a single bite fills me with pure joy.
They call me Mo Mo Roh. Born in Chiang Mai in 1996, I was lucky enough to be rescued from a riding camp. Loud trucks still startle me, a leftover echo from those days. But there's nothing I enjoy more than a refreshing shower, a simple pleasure that washes away any lingering stress.
Meet Mo Poe Kea! Born in 2008, this gentle giant came to our sanctuary after a life spent trekking tourists. A bit on the shy side, Mo Poe Kea finds comfort in the company of trusted friends. We're thrilled to offer them a safe, peaceful place to heal and relax.
They call me Sairung. Born in 1986, my early years were spent carrying burdens at an elephant riding camp. Thankfully, I was eventually rescued and found a new life. While I enjoy my own company, there's nothing quite like a good meal (the more the merrier, as far as I'm concerned!). And perhaps a surprising fact: I have a soft spot for music.
They call me Tong Eak, a name that rolls off the tongue like cool water. Born in 2020, my early days were spent not in a classroom, but in a lively elephant school – a place teeming with the playful energy of my kind. Now, my favorite way to unwind is with a good friend by my side, like Flower. Together, we create our own dances, swaying and twirling in the tall grass. When the sun beats down, there's nothing quite like a refreshing dip in a cool pool – a perfect way to cool off and have some fun!
They call me Vilin. Born in the heart of Chiang Mai in the year 2023, I tumbled into the world with the gentle nudges of my mother, Lotus. The world is a fascinating place, and like any young elephant, my days are filled with exploration. Whether it's the cool caress of water spraying from my trunk or the playful sift of sand between my toes, there's endless joy to be found in the simplest things.
William the Wonder Trunk! Born in 2000, this gentle giant arrived at our sanctuary after graduating from, believe it or not, elephant school! William's a friendly soul who enjoys putting his strength to the test with our guests in good-natured games. Come on down and see if you can measure up to William's amazing abilities!
Loch Palm Sanctuary (8)
Meet Daw Ruang, our gentle giant born in 1984! Rescued from a life of hard work, Daw Ruang now enjoys a peaceful retirement at our sanctuary. This sweetheart has a fondness for sugarcane and pineapple grass, but draws the line at cucumbers. A true herbivore, Daw Ruang prefers sticking to solid foods.
Introducing Duang Jai, a gentle giant born in 1987! Rescued from a life of hard labor, Duang Jai now enjoys a peaceful existence in our sanctuary. Known for her calmness, she prefers to take things slow, savoring her meals and indulging in naps whenever possible. Duang Jai isn't picky – she has a healthy appetite for just about anything!
My name is Jay, I was born in 1984. I was rescued from elephant dragging a log, with a leg wound and a neck. It is an elephant that likes to eat bananas, likes to eat slowly, stays still, and likes to walk forward and backward all the time.
Meet Luzi! This incredible elephant joined our sanctuary family after being rescued from a life in elephant shows. Luzi, born in 2009, has a playful personality and loves to dance. When it comes to food, she enjoys a good banana first, but don't be fooled! She has a clever habit of saving her sugarcane for later, making sure to enjoy every bite!
Our sanctuary is lucky to have Mo Mo, a playful elephant born in 2013. Rescued from the world of elephant rides, Mo Mo now enjoys a peaceful life. He's got a big appetite, especially for pineapple trees, and loves spending time with his best friend Nam Wah. They're practically inseparable!
Say hello to Nam Whaa! This gentle giant was born in 2008 and found a loving home at our sanctuary after being rescued from elephant rides. While Nam Whaa isn't the biggest fan of children, they have a huge appetite for everything – especially pineapples and grass! They're also quite the social butterfly, always wanting to be with their friend Mo Mo. Come visit Nam Whaa and see if you can become friends too!
Meet Sidney, our playful pachyderm born in 2021! Rescued from an elephant show, Sidney is still getting used to a healthier diet. While he has a fondness for bananas and cucumbers, he politely avoids sugarcane. Don't be fooled by his picky appetite though, Sidney is full of energy and loves to tease his fellow sanctuary friends!
Meet Wandee! Born in 2005, this happy-go-lucky elephant joined our sanctuary after a difficult past spent dragging logs. Wandee isn't picky about his food – he enjoys a good variety! When he's not munching on a tasty treat, you might find him socializing with his fellow residents. Welcome home, Wandee!
